The Call of the Road
I am Toby Lauwerier and I am going to Istanbul. From my hometown Ghent to the Bosphorus, that is about 3600 km in 22 days on the bike and a few days off bike in between. At least, that's the plan. I am leaving June 1st 2016, think to be in Istanbul less than a month later.
During my ride, I will try to post an update every other day or so about how it is going. If I am not posting anything for a while it whether means i gloriously failed and on my way back home whether I am seriously lost somewhere. Come find me then. Anyway, the road is my companion and will take care of me. That's how things are normally going when travelling the world by bike.
Along the way I will meet some friends - looking forward very much to see them. Also, I am particularly looking forward to meet my warmshowers hosts. I've been part of the hospitality exchange for some years now and it always has been a blessing - both as host and as a guest. Cyclists unity and understanding, warmshowers is by far the best site on the internet.
Seriously, I do get some frequently asked questions about my trip and my way of travelling. You can check them in the FAQ section.
Thank you for keeping an eye on me!
Update 12.07.2016: The Road to Istanbul has come to an end. I rode my bike for slightly more kilometers than I had initially planned and truly enjoyed myself for 4900 kilometer. I have not only cycled to Istanbul but also a part of the way back home (from the Romanian-Hungarian border to Vienna). You can read the day-by-day story in the blog (of course)!
